Entrepreneurship has been my career for more than 25 years now. Three companies, all self-funded from day one, all eventually sold: a brick-and-mortar shop, an online retail business, and a food concept I scaled into 400 franchise locations spread across five countries. Along the way I’ve partnered with brands ranging from Airbnb to Burton, and advised well over a thousand founders through starting, growing, exiting, or acquiring a company — everyone from someone doing it for the first time to Steve Jobs’ own executive team. On the side, I hold real estate and back a handful of early-stage companies.
One of the keys to selling a business well is understanding exactly where its strengths and weaknesses sit, so you can accentuate the value and shore up the weak points before a buyer ever sees them. I spend real time helping owners map out how the business could scale further, because that roadmap is often what a buyer is actually purchasing. And I push clients to stay flexible: price is one piece of the puzzle, but most exits ultimately come together in the terms of the deal, not the headline number.
I genuinely love this work. Watching a founder cross the finish line on a defining moment in their career, while tracking down exactly the right buyer to make it happen, is the most rewarding part of what I do.
First and foremost, I’m a dad. Beyond that, I’m an outdoor guy through and through — hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding fill most of my Colorado weekends. An old art background still shows up in how I tackle problems, and in quieter moments tending the garden or firing up my wood oven for friends.
