A Broker Who Has Built and Sold His Own Ecommerce Business
Andrew McSwain works with ecommerce entrepreneurs on one side of the table and investors on the other, and he brings an unusual combination of credentials to both: a CPA background, a stint in investment banking, and firsthand experience building and selling his own ecommerce portfolio.
Andrew started his career as a CPA at a Big Four public accounting firm before moving into investment banking, where his deal work centered on private placements and M&A for technology and software clients. From 2010 to 2023, he built a portfolio of ecommerce brands — through a mix of acquisitions and organic growth — into eight figures of annual revenue, before selling the business to a strategic acquirer in 2023.
How Operating Experience Shapes His Advice
That operating experience shapes how Andrew advises clients today. He works from the position that a deep, operational understanding of how a business actually runs and where it sits in its market is what determines whether a transaction succeeds, not just the headline financials. For sellers, that means digging into the operations and positioning of the business before it goes to market; for buyers, it means evaluating a target the way an operator would, not just the way a spreadsheet would.
Education and Credentials
His academic background pairs a BS in Finance earned at the University of Florida with two graduate credentials: an MS in Accounting completed at the University of Virginia, and an MBA out of Columbia Business School. That mix of accounting rigor, financial training, and deal experience shapes how he evaluates and structures transactions for ValleyBiggs clients in the technology and ecommerce space.
Outside of Work
He lives in Lakeland, Florida with his wife, and spends his free time swimming, running, and out with his Boykin Spaniel.
