A Wall Street Finance Background Applied to Business M&A

Andrew Castaldy advises both buyers and sellers on mergers and acquisitions, bringing nearly two decades of Wall Street finance experience to the deals he works on. He is based in Charleston, South Carolina.

For twelve years, Andrew served as CFO and COO of a private, New York-based hedge fund, working alongside institutional investment bankers on transactions across public and private markets. During his tenure, the firm raised and deployed close to $2 billion in event-driven and special-situations investments across the United States and Europe — work that required constant, hands-on valuation and deal analysis. Earlier in his career, he was a Senior Analyst responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities across the firm’s portfolios, the training ground for the financial-analysis discipline he now applies to business sales.

Representing Sellers

When Andrew represents a seller, the process starts with education: making sure the owner understands current market conditions, what a realistic valuation looks like, and what the process actually involves before a listing ever goes out. He works closely with sellers to get their financials in order and manage expectations, then draws on a buyer network built over years of deals to bring a more targeted, qualified pool of prospects to the table — often shortening the time to close.

Representing Buyers, Family Offices, and Private Equity

On the buy side, Andrew works with first-time and repeat acquirers to define what they’re actually looking for, then matches them against opportunities with a realistic probability of closing. That includes financial analysis, valuation guidance, help structuring the deal itself, and introductions to lenders and other transaction professionals. He also works directly with family offices, private equity firms, and portfolio companies that are actively acquiring, helping them source and evaluate targets that fit their specific investment criteria.

Background and Personal Life

Andrew’s background across capital raising, equity trading, accounting, and tax planning gives him a broader financial toolkit than a typical business broker, which shows up in how he structures and negotiates deals on both sides of the table. A native of Long Island, Andrew now lives in Charleston with his wife, two children, and two dogs.
